Yesterday, on television, I watched as Richard Proenneke built his home, a log cabin, in Twin Lakes, Alaska, far from the "maddening crowd". It was in the spring of 1968. Beautiful mountains, trees and lake for his enjoyment.At fifty one, Richard cut down trees with tools he fashioned himself, and built his beautiful home with a view of the lake and wildlife all around. I have never liked being the center of attention, whether for a positive reason or a negative one. All I can think of is "I hope this will be over soon". Because of that I do not understand this need for attention that you see on television. I enjoy a couple of reality shows and understand why people go on them. The fashion designer (Project Runway) who needs money to create more designs and get his/her name out there. The singer (American Idol) who is looking for that recording contract. These ...
